Pilbara Grade
Hamersley Range banded iron formation, weathered in place. Haematite dominant and very fine, with the highest stain retention we carry on white and light silver duco. Our most requested grade and the first to clear.
Every grade sold out ahead of the Mandurah show
Screened, graded and certified by region. Eight grades, each with a postcode, a Munsell reading and a treatment certificate.
Two days out from the show and the yard is clear. We have supplied this show for six years and we have never seen a run like it.
The next consignment is screened, bagged and sitting at Eucla awaiting DPIRD clearance. We are not taking payment until it lands. Put your name down and we will work through the list in order.
Colour is recorded against the Munsell soil chart at the point of harvest, moist and dry. Australian Soil Classification defines a red soil as hue 5YR or redder at chroma 3 or above. Every grade below is tested to that standard except Nullarbor Pale, which is sold as a touring-correct pale and not as a red. All eight are currently sold out.
Hamersley Range banded iron formation, weathered in place. Haematite dominant and very fine, with the highest stain retention we carry on white and light silver duco. Our most requested grade and the first to clear.
Dampier Peninsula. A silty clayey sand of low plasticity that dries back hard and self-cements through clay bridging. Holds through a highway run better than any grade in the range.
Quartz sand carrying a discontinuous haematite coating, graded 0.3 to 0.4 mm. The red is a coating a few microns thick, not the grain. Settles into panel gaps and jambs rather than sitting on flat surfaces.
Arid zone red earth off pastoral lease. The colour most people have in mind when they order. Even, fine and forgiving to apply, which makes it the one we recommend for a first order.
Weipa bauxite pisoliths, 2 to 10 mm with a 5 mm median and remarkably uniform. Each pisolith carries up to seven concentric cortices, almost white at the core through to dark red. For chassis rails, mud flaps and the inside of steel rims.
Ultrafine laterite dust, passing a 75 micron sieve. The grade this business is named for. Carries on air, settles into every seal, vent and door jamb, and is the only product we sell that reproduces a Gibb run properly.
Channel Country gibber. Polished stone under an iron oxide coating and desert varnish, near black in the hand and deep red in full sun. Unavailable for the 2026 season: the March floods closed our harvest window and access has not reopened.
Calcareous loam over calcrete, pale grey-fawn. Not a red and not sold as one. Correct for Eyre Highway and Nullarbor touring, where a red rig reads as wrong to anyone who has driven it. Sold out in every size.
Coverage is quoted at our standard 50 micron application on a dry panel. A mid-size SUV skin is roughly 25 m², a full-size 4WD with a rack about 35 m², a 22 ft tandem van about 62 m², and a 6 m boat on a tandem trailer 25 to 30 m². Order on the rig you actually tow, not the one in the driveway.
2 kg resealable bag · single application
Mid-size SUV. RAV4, CX-5, Outlander, Territory, Tucson.
5 kg bag · body, arches and flares
Large SUV and wagon. Prado, Everest, MU-X, Pajero Sport, Fortuner.
20 kg poly-weave sack · three full applications
Full-size 4WD and dual cab with canopy. LandCruiser 300 and 79, Patrol Y62, Ranger, HiLux, D-Max.
40 kg · two sacks · van and tow vehicle
22 ft tandem caravan or offroad van plus the tow vehicle. Covers the van front, sides, rear and A-frame.
60 kg · three sacks · hull, trailer and tow vehicle
6 m plate alloy or tinnie on a tandem trailer. Quintrex, Stacer, Bar Crusher. Includes the trailer guards and winch post.
1 tonne bulka bag · 900 × 900 × 1200 mm · 4 lifting loops
Club runs, dealer forecourts and multi-vehicle orders. Forklift or Hiab access required.
A one tonne bulka bag is not a cubic metre. Bags fill to one tonne or one cubic metre, whichever they reach first, and because this product is dense a tonne measures about 0.65 m³. Bags are UV stabilised to a 5:1 single-trip safety factor and are not to be reused. They are not waterproof.
A finish that reads as genuine is almost entirely about where you put it, not how much you use. The three things below account for most of the difference between a rig that looks like it has been somewhere and one that looks like it has been through a car wash backwards.
Apply to clean, dry duco. Dust will not key to a dirty panel, and anything already on the vehicle will show through as patching once the new coat settles.
Wash, dry completely, and let the panels come back down to ambient before you start. A warm bonnet will set the first pass unevenly.
Lower quarter panels, sills, behind the wheel arches, mud flaps, tailgate and the rear of the van. Keep the heaviest loading at the bottom and let it thin as it rises.
Do the door jambs, the fuel flap and the inside of the rims. These are the places people actually check, and they are the hardest to fake after the fact.
Twenty-four hours before driving. Fourteen days before washing. Do not pressure wash the jambs at any point, and do not take it through an automatic wash for a month.
Not for application to number plates. Obscuring a plate is an offence in every state and territory.
Moving soil around this country is heavily regulated, and for good reason. Everything we sell is harvested under agreement, treated, documented and cleared before it reaches a bag.
Every batch is irradiated above the 5 kGy threshold and leaves our yard free of weed seed, pathogens and invertebrates. Treatment certificates travel with the consignment.
Consignments are presented at Eucla or Kununurra and carry inspection paperwork. Free of plant material, seed and live soil, in line with DPIRD requirements.
Queensland biosecurity zones are redrawn every month. We re-check each source site against the current map before a harvest is approved, and hold a Biosecurity Certificate for material leaving a zone.
Crack-free concrete, under cover, never on sand or bare ground. This is a fire ant material handling requirement and we apply it to the whole yard rather than only to restricted stock.
Sourced under commercial supply agreement from licensed quarry and station land. We do not take material from national parks, reserves or Aboriginal land, and we will not. It is illegal, and it is somebody else's country.
Family owned since 2019. Screened, graded and bagged in Western Australia. Our yard is in Cannington and you are welcome to come and look at it.
4.7 out of 5 from 1,284 verified purchases. We publish every review we receive, including the ones below four stars.
Had the bar, drawers and the 270 done over winter and the 300 honestly looked too new, you know the feeling. Ordered the Tourer in Pilbara Grade ahead of our lap next year. Went on an absolute treat, no clumping, didnt even need the mist bottle. About 40 minutes in the driveway with the mitt. Sam at the Cannington yard ran me through the coverage figures so I didnt over order, nothing was too much trouble. Already down for the Van Pack when it lands. A+
Daz M.Baldivis WA · Tourer 20 kg, Pilbara GradeThird order from these blokes. Tried a cheap import off eBay before I found them and it was gone before Northam, washed off in one shower. The Pindan has been on the canopy since June and still looks the part. Not the cheapest but I'd rather buy once cry once. Stoked to be supporting an Aussie owned outfit as well.
Greg T.Ellenbrook WA · Weekender 5 kg, Kimberley PindanProduct itself is spot on,no complaints there. Freight to Karratha ended up more than the dirt did which I wasnt expecting at checkout. Taking a star off for the freight and not for the product. Would still order again.Wayne H.Karratha WA · Tourer 20 kg, Red Centre
Missus reckoned it looked ridiculous. Three blokes at the ramp asked us where we'd been. Worth every cent.
Shaun P.Mandurah WA · Deckhand 60 kg, Cape York PisoliteWe did the Gibb properly in '24 and spent two weekends with the pressure washer getting it back off, so I'll admit I laughed when it was suggested we pay for it. Van Pack turned up with a split bag, freight damage, not their doing. Rang Monday morning, spoke to Trevor, had a replacement on the truck that afternoon and was told to keep the first one. No forms, no mucking about. The dirt is the dirt. Its the service thats worth writing about.
Cheers

Kerry & RobBusselton WA · Van Pack 40 kg, Gibb River BulldustGood product but I ordered the Day Tripper for a 150 Prado and it nowhere near went round. The coverage figure on here is for a light pass and I was laying it on thick. Get the Weekender if youve got a wagon. My fault not theirs, only putting it here so the next bloke doesnt do the same.Anthony L.Canning Vale WA · Day Tripper 2 kg, Simpson Dune
Shortchanged Anthony
We work through the list in order. No deposit and no obligation, and we will not take payment until the consignment clears.
Eventually, with the right process. Iron oxide reacts with automotive paint and is mildly abrasive, so an ordinary wash will not shift it. The trade process is a long soak, a truck wash, an iron fallout remover, then a clay bar before you polish.
Pilbara Grade and Cape York Pisolite are the two highest in iron oxide and will mark unsealed paint, particularly white and light silver. That is the product working as intended. If permanence is a concern, order Red Centre or Simpson Dune.
At 20 kg the Tourer consumes about 2.6% of a LandCruiser 300 VX's 650 kg payload, so for most owners it is immaterial.
It is worth checking if you tow at the limit. A 300 Series towing its rated 3,500 kg can be left with as little as 300 kg of payload once ball weight is accounted for, and the binding constraint is usually the rear axle rating rather than GVM. Tell us your setup on the form and we will check it against the plate before we ship.
There is no single national system. Every state and territory sets its own rules, and soil is a restricted pathway in all of them. Our bags travel with treatment and inspection paperwork, which is what a checkpoint will ask for.
If you are crossing at Eucla or Kununurra, declare it. The inspection takes about five minutes and the checkpoints run 24 hours. Do not put it in a quarantine amnesty bin, which is what happens if you do not declare it.
Demand ahead of the Mandurah show ran about four times our forecast and cleared nine days of stock in two. We under-ordered. That is on us.
The next consignment is screened and bagged and sitting at Eucla pending DPIRD clearance. We expect to be shipping between 14 and 21 November.
No, and this catches people out. A bulka bag fills to one tonne or one cubic metre, whichever it reaches first. Our product is dense, so a one tonne bag measures roughly 0.65 m³.
One Convoy bag is about the same volume as fifty 20 kg sacks. You will need forklift or Hiab access and a clear car-width path, and we cannot place a bag over a fence or a retaining wall.
Yes. Cannington, Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm and Saturday mornings until 11. Bring something to tie it down with.
There is nothing on the floor to collect at the moment. You are still welcome to come and look at the bagging line and the grading screens.
